Twitter eXtreme

Are you a victim of Twitter Squatting? If you’re not careful, you will be. Twitter is one of the fastest growing social sites on the planet, and usernames are disappearing fast. Even if you’re not a “guru”, another person with your name or favorite username can easily beat you to the punch and deny your twitter position.

According to PC World, “Is there evidence of Twitter squatting (squitting?) Let’s check. Yup, every single-letter TwitID is taken. Some are legitimate (Check out “S” for instance, that is a cool personal email assistant service) but X, Y, and Z are place holders.   How about common words? Garage, wow, war, warcraft, Crisco, Coke, Pepsi, Nike, and Chevrolet are all taken. My guess is that Twitter squatters have grabbed all of these in the hopes that they will be worth selling in the not too distant future. Of course the legitimate holders of brands can sue for them and Twitter can just turn them over if asked. But, because the investment and risk for the squatter is zero, you are going to see the rapid evaporation of available Twitter IDs.”

The solution, you ask? Back to PC World: “How to protect your own brand? Immediately go to Twitter.com and determine if your name is available. Get it while you can.”

Even if you have no idea what Twitter is, or how you would use it, there’s no reason to not go there and simply set up a free account, just to lock up your name. Don’t you wish you registered your name or brand back in the 90’s, when domain names were free and easy to get? The same thing is happening with Twitter right now.

Not convinced that Twitter is for real? According to Compete.com, twitter traffic is up an astounding 752% in 2008, from 500,000 unique visitors in January to 4.43 million in December.

Whether you love it, hate it, or don’t even know about it, twitter is a powerful social force, so you might as well grab your “real estate” there now, and ask questions later!

Twitter, это классная штука! Теперь я знаю это точно! Мой роман с ним долго не складывался. Уже даже не помню, когда о нем узнал, было это довольно давно. Зарегистрировался, посмотрел, подумал – какой-то бред, и забыл.

Вторая попытка, подружиться с Twitter состоялась, после того как начитался восторженных западных блоггеров. Снова пошел в свой аккаунт, но дальше первого раза не продвинулся.

Третью попытку я осуществил, с подачи ProfitHunter, в разгар последнего марафона. «И в 3 раз закинул старик невод в море»… Но опять этого оказалось недостаточно – я остался холоден к сервису. Единственное, я твердо решил, что штука все-таки достойная внимания, и я к ней обязательно вернусь.

Спустя месяц или два, я прочитал на блоге у Димка, что он серьезно «подсел», на Twitter. Не знаю почему, но это послужило для меня хорошим стимулом к действию. Я в очередной раз пошел на сервис, завел новый аккаунт (потому что к старому уже даже забыл логин и пароль), и наконец-то сделал волевое усилие, чтобы изучить его посерьезнее, запостить пару предложений, и поискать знакомых. Итогом 15-минутных усилий стало то, что я тоже «попался» и застрял, думаю надолго.

Итак, для тех, кто еще не знает, что такое Twitter? Начну со слов одного блоггера, которые где-то прочитал:

«На хрена нужен этот twitter? Ссылки редиректные, да и вообще, nofollow, в общем, глупая бесполезная забава!»

Я думаю, это мнение человека, который не представляет себе, что такое Twitter и с чем его едят. Для меня Twitter это прикольный микроблоггинг в купе с возможностями «аськи». Уже этого нехитрого арсенала достаточно, для того чтобы сервис стал грозным орудием Интернет-маркетинга и не только!

С помощью Twitter можно завести знакомства и пообщаться с другими блоггерами, можно познакомить свою «сеть» с интересными материалами, можно комментировать чьи-то микропосты, и получать комментарии на свои, можно еще много всего, в общем, оценить пользу сервиса можно только попробовав.

Как итог, Twitter, может стать не плохим источником новых знакомств, знаний и трафика. Конечно, употребив «страшное» слово «интернет-маркетинг», применительно к сервису Рунету, я немного погорячился, в этом отношение, потенциал сервиса на западе на порядок выше, но разве это новость? Далеко не каждый сможет грамотно прокачать и выжать целевой трафик из своего аккаунта в Digg, а зачастую это вовсе не реально, а здесь – бери пользуйся, да извлекай пользу! К тому, же, как знать, Твитер развивается, и затягивает все больше Ру-блоггеров.

Для того чтобы пользоваться Twitter, совсем не обязательно делать это, находясь на сайте сервиса. Есть классный бесплатный агент, напоминающий аську twhirl. Пользоваться удобно, глюков и багов пока не замечено.

Ну, а теперь, раз уж название поста вышло каламбурным, немного про Del.icio.us. Делишес, это мой любимый сервис закладок. Это первый закладочник с которым я познакомился, и начал использовать сугубо по делу, т.е именно как хранилище классных закладок, а не с целью поиграть с ним в «оптимизаторских» целях.

На Del.icio.us, у меня сейчас мало закладок, потому что это аккаунт я завел с неделю назад, старый как я написал выше, начинался правильно, но потом я превратил его в помойку. К тому же я хотел новый логин/пароль/e-mail, поэтому решил начать с «чистого листа». Сейчас, у меня на блоге висит виджет сервиса, поэтому любой желающий может меня зафрендить, чтобы посмотреть мои ссылки и поделиться своими. Всем велкам!

Softbank Mobile Corp. unveiled new cell phones Tuesday boasting applications for the micro-blogging service Twitter.

Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son, an avid user of twitter, said the move is aimed at making it easier for more people to “tweet,” or comment, via their cell phones.

The number of Twitter users in Japan has been growing rapidly, but not many people were using the medium through cell phones except for iPhone users, which Softbank offers, he said.

Son said he thought it would be useful to preinstall the applications on the firm’s new products, adding that Softbank worked with U.S-based Twitter Inc. to provide the official twitter widget.

“I think the day is coming when people will think if there is no Twitter (application), it’s not a cell phone,” he said during a news conference in Tokyo.

Twitter had 108 million users worldwide as of April.

Ever since he began using the service in December, Son said his life has changed because it connects him with many other users. As of Tuesday, he had more than 287,400 followers.

“The first thing I do in the morning is check Twitter,” said Son, adding he also uses it while at work and before going to bed.

“At first, I started using it for my business,” he said. “But I just can’t help enjoying it so much.”

The news conference was broadcast live via Ustream, a free online live video broadcast. Twitter CEO Evan Williams took part as a guest through Ustream from the U.S.

“We are excited about the official Twitter Widget coming out” on Softbank’s handsets, Williams said.

During the news conference, a massive presentation screen showed live comments from Twitter users watching via Ustream.

Son has been making business decision remarks on Twitter. For instance, he tweeted recently that Softbank will start flat-rate unlimited mail and Web service for Softbank customers traveling overseas, responding to customer gripes that the fees abroad are too high.
